Highland Game launches new venison ‘Chef’s Selection’ range exclusive to Tesco

Highland Game, the UK’s largest venison processor, announce the launch of their new ‘Chef’s Selection’ range which will be exclusive to selected Tesco stores in Scotland from 16th April 2012.

This new inspirational range has been sourced, selected and created exclusively for Tesco and developed by Scottish-born chef, cookery writer, food stylist and teacher Maxine Clark (who has over 25 years experience in most aspects of the culinary world) and famous Scottish chef, Willie Pike MBE (www.williepike.co.uk). Maxine and Willie were asked to create a new experience for Highland Game and venison consumers. They have produced not just a delicious and healthy product, but also a fantastic selection, that is both affordable and easy to cook.

The healthy new range consists of grill steaks, burgers, sausages and meatballs and highlights once again the outstanding quality of Highland Game produce, made from the finest lean Scottish venison meat which provides the perfect ingredients for delicious meals at home and BBQ’s. All four products come with easy and appetizing recipes and serving suggestions – look out for the distinctive new black packaging on your Tesco shelves.

Chef’s Selection Venison Sausages 300g, 6 sausages in a pack

Chef’s Selection Venison Burgers 227g, 2 “quarter pounder” venison burgers in a pack

Chef’s Selection Venison Meatballs 300g, 12 meatballs in a pack

Chef’s Selection Venison Grill Steaks 300g, 2 “man size” oval grill steaks

Highland Game was founded by Danish born Christian Nissen in 1997. Since then the business has grown to become a key supplier of venison products throughout the UK. Nissen’s enthusiasm and commitment to providing the finest quality venison products has seen demand increase dramatically; “our success in promoting venison is getting to a point where supply is beginning to be an issue – we need more Scottish venison, both wild and farmed”. Nissen is encouraging the Government to engage with developing a venison farming enterprise to allow the consumers to continue to be offered homegrown produce.

The Dundee based company currently supplies venison daily to over 500 supermarket stores and to deli shops, quality butchers, catering industry distributors and online sites throughout the UK.

Tesco stores across Scotland will be selling selected products from the range from the launch date of Monday 16th April. Products will be sold at a £2.50/pack introduction price for the first 12 weeks for all products, encouraging consumers to try the products: some maybe even trying venison for the first time. Highland Game is looking to the future and expanding their ambitions in specialty foods. In the autumn they will be launching two further chef selection ranges due to popular demand, encouraging customers to be more adventurous with their palettes. These will include appetizing and convenient venison packs, which will help customers, succeed in the kitchen and slightly Cheffier options such as award-winning marinated diced venison for a heartwarming stew and steaks with a whiskey jus.

Once this range has been successfully trialed by Tesco customers in Scotland, Nissen’s ambition and determination is to expand it into England on 1st April 2013.
