SCOTTISH VENISON DAY 2012
Scottish Venison Day 2012
The Scottish Venison Partnership continues to raise awareness for its iconic Scottish food, and hosted hosting a professional tasting event for chefs and food writers in Edinburgh on Monday 3rd September, the day before Scottish Venison Day. Venison ambassador and award-winning food writer Nichola Fletcher challenged guests to tell the difference between red deer and roe deer, and demonstrated different factors which influence taste. Other activities in September to promote venison include two presentation evenings for butchers in the Scottish borders and Aberdeen. These talks, with demonstrations and tasting, are organised by the Scottish Federation of Meat Traders Association in conjunction with the Scottish Venison Partnership.
Many restaurants and retailers are including special dishes or special offers to mark the occasion, including: Scottish Jerky who are offering £1 off every pack of venison jerky on Scottish Venison Day; Carmichael Farm Meats, who are offering 10% off venison in their farm shop and 10% off venison meals in their clan farmhouse tearoom/restaurant; the Farmshop at Hopetoun are reducing the price of their venison sausages, burgers and steaks; Deans restaurant at Let's Eat in Perth are serving a special venison 3-ways - pink loin, casserole and brochette with dauphinoise potato cake, creamed celeriac, banana shallots and game sauce: Mortlach Game are promoting venison at the Huntly Hairst; and many others are promoting venison actively to their customers, including Alternative Meats and Great Glen Game.
